A Christmas Portrait That Became a Family Story

A Christmas Portrait That Became a Family Story

A few seasons ago one family gathered for a Christmas portrait that would become far more than a photograph.

You know this feeling. When everyone is finally in the same room and the noise quiets. When laughter rises easily and belonging feels familiar. That is the moment this family chose to preserve.

Three generations stood together that evening. Fathers and grandfathers in tailored suits. Mothers daughters and granddaughters dressed with care. It was not about formality. It was about honoring the moment they were standing in together.

That single image became their Christmas card.

It traveled through envelopes and into homes across the country carrying one quiet message.

This is who we are together.

When you choose to create something like this you give your family more than a portrait. You give them a touchstone. A reminder. A piece of themselves that lives on the walls of the home and in the rhythm of daily life.

You are not doing this for the holiday.
You are doing this for time.

As a family photographer in Colorado I work with families who understand that photography is not about a file. It is not about being perfect. It is about preserving a feeling. A season. A sense of belonging.

Your portrait becomes part of the home. It greets guests. It lives quietly in the background of everyday life. It is seen in February and July and long after the cards have been put away.

Multi generation portraits matter because you matter to one another. They allow children to see where they come from and grandparents to see who they have helped shape.

When you look at a portrait like this you see faces.
When you live with it you feel home.

If you have ever thought about honoring your family in this way you are not behind. You are simply waiting for the right moment. And that moment does not arrive with a calendar. It arrives when you are ready.

A limited number of commissions are reserved each season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a formal portrait only for the holidays

No. What matters is the gathering not the calendar. Families often choose to create portraits when everyone can be together regardless of the time of year.

Do we have to dress formally

Formal clothing is a choice not a requirement. What matters is that your family feels at ease and connected. Guidance is always provided so the final result feels natural layered and intentional.

Can we include extended family

Yes. Three and four generation portraits are welcome and encouraged. These sessions are among the most meaningful I create.

What if we are uncomfortable in front of the camera

You will not be asked to perform or pose. Your only job is to arrive and be together. The rest is gently guided.

Where do sessions usually take place

Sessions may be held in private homes estates resorts or outdoor spaces where natural light feels calm and welcoming.

Will the portrait be designed for our home

Yes. During your design consultation we discuss scale framing and placement. The art is created for the heart of your home.

When should we reserve

Commissions are limited to ensure every family receives a calm unhurried experience. Early booking is always encouraged.
